Section II:
Volume One, Issues 17-26, Dead-Killer saga |
In order not to
give away too much in discussing the characters, we have divided the character profiles
into sections and only discuss the occurrences that take place during that time period . The profiles of the characters (those that have
survived, that is) continue in other sections.
Previous Characters Update
- Joey Blake Joey tries to fit into a normal life as he and Dan find themselves in an
area called only "the community". Striving to add normalcy to this new world,
the community puts Joey back in school. Joey matures considerably here and even gets a
girlfriend, Jenny. He actually enjoys the discipline and structured life. Dan, however,
convinces him that they have to leave and the two of them hit the road with no particular
destination in mind.
- Dan McDonald Dan and Joey are brought into the "community" and although Dan
resists it, he soon finds a lot to like about it, including Marla. However, Dan realizes
that hiding out isnt going to solve anything or find the answers to the questions
and so he convinces Joey to leave with him as they search for an understanding of what is
going on in the world.
- Donna Martin Securing a place for her in the motorcycle gang, Donna makes the best of a
bad situation. Only Percy is a link to her past and she refuses any attempts to escape to
try and find Dan because after all, he had deserted her.
- Deake He accompanies (not by choice), Moloch and Reyna as they hook up with
Jaxsons paramilitary group. He is held captive because of his importance to the
zombies but no one but Deake knows what he is capable of.

- Bowker forced to stay with Vamp, Bowker continues to search for Moloch to exact
revenge. He betrays the Dead-Killer to King Zombie and later saves Dead-Killer. He is
tricked by Vamp as she assumes a new body which he thinks is a live girl. He begins to
become resigned to his fate.
- Punk & Eddie Hiding out in truck as the city is
being taken over by zombies, They are discovered by Bowker and accompany him.
- Moloch Held a prisoner of Jaxsons men, Moloch is crippled and is put on drugs
to keep him sedated.
- Reyna She quickly adapts to her
new position under Jaxson and uses her body to gain some freedom. She begins to secretly
plot a military takeover as she tells Jaxson that she is willing to have Moloch killed.
- Percy Stays with Donna at the
motorcycle camp and is seemingly oblivious to everything going on.
- Wolverine His whereabouts are
unknown during this section.
New Characters Introduced
- Jenny (first appearance
V#1, #17. Death-V#1, #23) Joeys first real girlfriend who he met when he joined
the "community". After Joey left with Dan, she was one of the few survivors that
was left to King Zombies interrogation. She died but remained intelligent enough to
attempt suicide as a zombie and perform a mercy killing on Marla.
- Marla (first appearance
V#1, #17. Death-V#1, #23). Developed a relationship with Dan when he was with the
"community". Tortured by the zombies and striped of flesh, she was killed by her
best friend Jenny to spare her the agony.
- Stacy (first appearance V
#1, #19) A college student in Michigan, she helped John to lead the townspeople up
north and established a relationship with John as well. She tempered Johns
dictatorial rule quite a bit and was one of the leaders of the town. She became pregnant
with Johns baby.
- John (first appearance V
#1, #19). Leader of the town of Millsboro. He was the first to deal with the zombies
in the town when his daughter and wife were attacked. His daughter was killed but the wife
became a zombie and John had to shoot her. The incident traumatized Johns remaining
child, Carl. John was a hard-headed leader but effective and the survival of Millsboro can
be attributed to his actions. He took the people up to the Upper Peninsula, blew up the
bridge and figured they could be safe up there in the cold weather and sparse population.
- Wayne (first appearance
V#1, #19. Death V#1, #24). A survivalist who accompanied Albert on his trek to
Traverse City to find Alberts parents. He seemed to relish the role and was eager to
show off his knowledge and would clean out zombies for food and ammo. He was killed by
some of the residents of Millsboro who thought he was a zombie.
- Albert (first appearance
V#1, #19). Returning from the East, Albert attempted to find his parents who had
retired to the resort city of Traverse City. Wayne traveled with him and by doing so,
ensured that Albert was safe. Once Wayne was killed, Albert joined up with the people of
Millsboro and even during the slaughter at the Fort, Albert had a hard time killing
zombies.
- Dead-Killer (first
appearance V#1, #19). Nothing is known about the Dead-Killers past or even his
real name. He adapted to the new way of things rather quickly. He saw it as a test and
would frequently fight zombies hand to hand. He made the King Zombie a personal target of
his but failed in his first attempt, losing a hand in the process. He became entrenched
with Katherine whom he first met when she was living alone after her husband died.
Katherine asked him for a large favor which he complied with...the killing her blind and
retarded infant.
Outfitting himself with a stiletto blade to replace his hand, he went
after King Zombie again, only to be betrayed by Bowker. He managed to free himself from
the clutches of Vamp and killed her as well as King Zombie. However, both of those
entities managed to transfer their essence in new bodies. When Katherine was captured,
Dead-Killer turned himself in to King Zombie and was at the mercy of the head zombie. Both
of his legs broken, Dead-Killer was saved by the townspeople where Katherine lived.
- Kirk (first appearance V#1,
#20). With a gang in the Appalachians, Kirk decided to leave that group as he saw
they were headed for disaster. The group just didnt treat the zombies as a real
menace. He eluded escape in the mountains by skinning a zombie and wearing the skin. He
hopped on a small plane to get to the Midwest before running into Clarence at a bar. The
two hooked up together and ended up eventually joining the Millsboro townspeople.
- Clarence (first appearance
V#1, #24) An escaped prisoner from Marquette Maximum Security, Clarence fit into the
survivalist role rather quickly. He was a man of action yet a man who could be trusted. He
was a leader by action rather than words and instantly earned the respect of everyone. It
was his plan to circumvent the town of Wolverine by boat and fend off an attack from that
town.
- Katherine (Introduced in
Dead-Killer #1)- A doctor in the "life before", she and her husband tried
to establish themselves in the remote woods. However, her husband was killed by other
humans who panicked and thought he was a zombie. The Dead-Killer became a distant
companion and when she delivered her child, she asked if the Dead-Killer would kill the
infant as it was blind and retarded. She knew it would never have a chance in the
Deadworld. Later she joined a small town and waited for the Dead-Killer to accept
civilization and join them. However, King Zombie stepped in and captured her. Bowker
showed her some compassion and respect but it was the Dead-Killer trading himself for her
that allowed her freedom. She led the townspeople against the zombies and to save
Dead-Killers life.
